It is told that the French writer George Perec considered the idea to have his living room in the Latin Quarter, his study close to the Champs-Élysées, his bedroom in Montmartre and his bathroom on the Île de la Cité.  The idea is that an apartment can be disseminated throughout the city of Paris, finding the rooms in various places, according to hours of the day, to the environment of the district, to the desires of the moment and the season. The thresholds between two rooms, normally a doorway of a few centimeters thick, dilates then over hundreds of meters. The apartment does not measure any more 50 square meters, but one or two square kilometers.

Basierend auf dieser Idee erbaute Philippe Rahm im Jahr 2006 das Projekt Griezdale artfarm in der englischen Grafschaft Cumbria. Sinn und Zweck war es, die gängige Vorstellung eines Hauses um viele Facetten zu erweitern. Im Ergebnis soll sich der Bewohner zu Hause am wohlsten fühlen und nicht mehr Cafes, Bars oder sonstige Lokalitäten aufsuchen, nur weil es sich dort zu dem Zeitpunkt besser verweilen lässt. Rahm sorgt für ideale Ausleuchtung und Zimmertemperatur, ohne auf technische Hilfen zurückzugreifen.
